Connecting with Peer Mentor

18 March 2017, SaturdayIMG_1259

Every year, the city of West Covina works with the East San Gabriel
Valley Japanese
Community Center to host the Cherry Blossom Festival at South Hills Plaza. The event was from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM. I attended the event with another AHA member, Kelly. We  did not stay for the whole duration of the event because we went to eat at another place. We got there at around 12:30 PM and stayed until about 3:30 PM.

The festival had many booths and vendors that had a whole variety of different things. There were also different types of food. They mainly had Japanese food, such as sushi, bento boxes and rice bowls. Korean food and Hispanic meal vendors were also present. Kelly and I bought a small dessert to try and it tasted pretty good but it was pretty pricey. We also watched some people perform on stage.

The booths also had a wide variety of things to look at and buy. There was a booth that sold a lot of Hello Kitty items as well as booths that sold baseball hats. I do not know how much they costed because I was not interested but it seemed like many families were getting a good deal. There was also about two or three booths that just had dogs, specifically Japanese bred dogs, such as Akita and Shiba Inu.

We IMG_1233both had a really good time at the festival walking around and looking at things. At around 3:30 PM, we left the festival but we went to the nearby Japanese market to look at some stuff. We also grabbed a quick bite at the sushi bar and small buffet that was located in the market. We ate and talked for about two hours about random things. It was a great time to connect with her and I found out things that I never knew. Kelly and I usually just talk about our internship and school but this time we had more to talk about. I am really glad that we were able to go out and have a good time and bond together.
